This week: Thursday 1/4 was all about introductions. We did read a letter to a younger-self and took a close look at style choices the writer made. This is serving as a model upon which students will write their own letter to their younger self Friday 1/5: Work on letters (DUE Tuesday 1/9). Be sure to have used 3 style choices: -simile, hyphens, long sentences punctuated with short ones, sentence fragments (intentional ones are different than unintentional ones), rhetorical questions, ending where it began (coming full circle), description, dialogue, diction, and anecdote. *Syllabus* The COUNTDOWN is ON!!! Today we finished Much Ado About Nothing -Act II, which means there is a QUIZ over ACT II Thursday 12/7. Study! (Study guide and everything Shakespeare is on the internet too- use your resources.) HOMEWORK: We started working on the first CEI paragraph over Much Ado About Nothing and the 9 Alignments. FINISH this paragraph by tomorrow 12/7!! Claim = _____(Character's name) most closely matches the ______ alignment because _______. Evidence= Lead-in, "Quote" (II.ii.1-3, p. 3). (Cite the quote with ACT.scene. line #s, p. #). Interpretation (3+ sentences) = 1. Context of the quote (Who was talking to whom? What was happening when it was spoken?) 2. Connection to alignment (How does this quote prove the character's alignment? What do your notes on the alignments say?) 3. Make sure you fully connect back to claim. This last unit is focused on the thematic idea of lies and deception. Monday 11/27: 1. Intro Unit 8A vocabulary 2. Imagery Warm-up (yes- this will be on the final; handout available upon request.) 3. Discuss lying and deceit 4. Introduce 9 Alignments (YOU NEED to KNOW this!) Tuesday 11/28: 1. Review vocab 2. Handout independent reading project 3. Introduce Much Ado About Nothing characters (map) and plot charts 4. Read Act 1.i using No Fear Shakespeare. Need it at home? Everything Shakespeare is on the internet. Google it. Imagery Warm-ups (handouts) Project Choices (an overview) -handed out in class 11/28 Options: (each below contain the details of each project along with the rubric. 1. Book Talk (What to include idea sheet) 2. Movie Pitch (and Rubric) 3. Body Mapping 4. Soundtrack ***All students MUST sign-up for a presentation slot. Presentations begin Friday 12/1 and conclude Wednesday 12/13. No more than 3-4 presentations/ day. *** Extended Outline Template: Due November 13
Lead-ins, Transitions, and Citations PPT (use this to help you through your extended outline and rough draft) Formatting your paper. Do this in word and then move it into Google. Hooks: Make sure that you're creating an interesting start to your paper. If it bores you, it will bore your reader too. Look at the attached and focus in on rhetorical questions (these are not easy to do) and "Imagine" and "Startling Statistic/ Fact" -these three may help with your paper. ( I know that the link is for speeches, but it is good information to apply to hook a reader with your paper too.) Conclusion: Rememeber, this is where you tie it all together. What is it you want your readers to get out of your paper/ have understood as a result of reading it and then what do you want them to do or believe as a result? Peer Editing checklists: Look at the PPT and be sure to check your paper against it. Review the green assignment sheet and the rubric too.
