Right now we are exploring the essential question "What is Cultural Identity?" through various mediums: video, articles, stories, poetry, and art. There will be two major assessments with this unit.
The stories and poems we read are on in the Springboard textbook, which remain in the classroom. However, here are all the pieces that are found in the Unit One textbook: unit one pdf If ever you are absent- please see what you missed that day so you may return to school caught-up. The expectations are that as we read, you mark the text: CIRCLE any word you don't know, place and EXCLAMATION MARK next to anything that is important to the reading purpose, and place a QUESTION MARK next to any part that is unclear, creates a question in your mind, or is a point worth of discussion (ie- a discussion question). Overview 7/31-8/4: Syllabus (pdf) Read: paragraph #8 of What is Cultural Identity Activity 1.3 (pg. 10) What is Ethnic Hash Activity 1.3 (pg. 13-15) Two Kinds Activity 1.5 (pg. 21-32) Overview 8/7-8/11: Intro Unit 6A Vocabulary (words 1-10) Intro PPT; Quizlet Link Vocab Quiz will be on Fri 8/11 Read: From Frida, a Biography of Frida Kahlo Activity 1.6 (pg. 33-36) -pre-reading we watched a video introducing Frida Kahlo "Legal Alien" (a poem) Activity 1.6 (pg. 40-41) After completing an OPTIC about one of Frida Kahlo's paintings, we completed page 42 connecting the painting and the poem. Other Activities: -Discussion on subcultures, look at other subcultures that exist(ed) outside the United States. - Student Learning Objective (SLO) pre-test on 8/10 -Used TPFASTT w/ poem "Legal Alien" In the future I'll post so that it is easier to see what is done each day, upcoming assignments and any homework that there is.
