Dear 10th Lit parents & students,
We hope this email finds you and your families safe and well. We are winding down this crazy spring semester. Today we introduced Module 8 in our morning Zoom call. This module has a lot of flexibility for those who enjoy Ted Talks and has an assignment to post in Flipgrid for a writing grade. We are asking that all work be completed for this Module and any earlier modules by Sunday, May 17th to allow for grading time. If you are still completing any work from Modules 3-6, please send an email or a Remind text to your teacher so that we go back and grade that work and please check Synergy for grades as they are being entered daily, but we want to have everything graded before the optional final exam to avoid any last minute concerns. Please be proactive as many of you are already. Thank you! There will be an optional “Final Exam” project uploaded on Monday for those students who are still working to improve their grades, which will be due Thursday, May 21st. As always, we are available to assist you on an individual basis and will have a Zoom call later this week for any questions on Modules 7 or 8. Please check the Google Classroom for assignments and updates to available support. We are only an email/text/ Remind away. Emily Ellwood Wendy Kerzman Annette Tucker

Students and Parents,
This notification is to inform you of the latest information released by the county regarding your child’s grade. As noted from the district communication, students have a choice to accept their grades as of March 13, 2020 as final grades for the 2019-2020 school year OR Continue to earn grades for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year to improve their grade(s). We want to clarify that if a student chooses not to participate, perform or actively engage with his/her teacher(s) and they do not take advantage of assignment opportunities, this will result in their final grade being the grade that they had on March 13th. The only way for the March 13th grade to improve is for the student to submit assignments and participate in the digital learning opportunities made available to him/her by the teacher. While we are out of the classroom and learning online- this is our space. Everything will be in Google Classroom and arranged in week-long Modules (Sunday to Saturday).
***There will be optional Zoom meetings each day where you will be able to "go to class" for a short while to get some instruction, ask questions, and have some discussion time. The LINKS and TIMES to the Zoom meetings will be found in the pacing guide for each module. ***OFFICE HOURS: 10-2:30 M-F*** ***I sent out an email Saturday 3/14 with information. Email me if you did not get it. ***I am here to HELP in any way I can. PLEASE communicate with me if you need anything: EMAIL, REMIND, ZOOM are the best ways. ( Class Remind- text 81010 @ellwood ) You all are AMAZING! And I know that you will continue to do your best as you have each and every day in class.
Friday 3/13:
1. IR 2. Zinc/Lexia in Lab 3. CEIEI 4. Unwind Long-write #2; HW: keep up with Unwind reading schedule 5. Look for post later about joining Google Classroom to use while we are out. ***You will also need access to FlipGrid & a copy of the book Of Mice and Men during our time online. There is a free PDF that will be available to you, but if you want a copy of the book- get one. ***
1/27- 1/31:
*Research Mondays have started. We are working on moving toward the research paper, but will be doing it in stages on Mondays. Today we did some brainstorming about marginalized groups and causes in need of advocacy. Students should have narrowed down their topics to 1-2 by next Monday. *Independent Reading- We do this every day in class. I am encouraging students to read 1-2 books in class every 6 weeks. * Unit 1 Test Feedback -Tuesday in class we spent time working through missed questions. Students found this very helpful. *Review Direct versus Indirect characterization examples. This was a challenging part of the unit 1 test for many students. *Finding Main Idea- We read a short article to find main idea. Students will need this skill for their research Mondays. It is good to practice this at home too. *Introduce Tone Vocabulary. Study definitions and examples. There will be a quiz next Wednesday. *Continue to work on Synthesis Essay. Use feedback from previous CEIs to know where you need to improve. *Literacy practice- On Friday we will start using the computers to practice our reading skills to help improve literacy. If students have headphones that may be plugged into the computers, they are encouraged to bring these to class Friday. We will work on this skill weekly. Will be ready to view by Friday 1/24. Thank you for your patience and understanding. I am sorry I missed you; my son had his youth basketball championship game during Open House.
