Fri 2/9:
1. Warm-up: •Using the story “Pick One” write one full paragraph answer incorporating all of the questions below: •What is Matthews’ perspective in the 1970s on being mixed? Was he ‘OK’ with his final decision? •Who was his audience for the piece? Why do you think that? •Find evidence to support your answer (and note whether or not it could be qualified as direct or indirect dialogue). 2. IR 3. Discuss warm-up, tie into Unit 2 EA#1 -Perspective Narrative, look at ways other writers started their stories, and wrote first sentence. 4. Watched "Hey Arnold!" episode and discussed story telling techniques and its connection to the assignment. HW: Finish research chart (this is due Monday) and be ready to begin typing the rough draft of your narrative on MONDAY. This assignment must include: plot, character(s), dialogue (indirect and direct), pacing (sentence variety), and point of view -after all it is meant to capture the perspective of choice. See "An Indian Father's Plea" in textbook for a sample.
