This week has been about writing. Monday we read "By Any Other Name" which lead us into a conversation about the importance of names. Names are a significant part of our identity and have been given to us for different reasons, and amazingly have managed to fit personality. To get the writing started on Tuesday, we had a free "journal" reflection writing session about names that turned into a rough draft- due Wednesday. Wednesday, we spent the short time we had (it was an early release day) doing a writer's workshop in small groups using that same rough draft. Students are to take the feedback from Wednesday and their knowledge of stylistic choices writers make to submit a final draft on Friday, Sept. 1st. The formal piece of writing was also on Tuesday, August 29. Students wrote one small CEI paragraph answering the prompt, "To what degree does cultural identity impact a person's perspective?" Then, students were to use evidence from the story "By Any Other Name" (one sentence), and then write 3 sentences of interpretation. This was submitted at the end of class. I will be giving students feedback on their writing on Tuesday.
